Tennessee quarterback Quinten Dormady participated in the Vols’ practice on Tuesday afternoon.
Rumors swirled earlier in the day regarding Dormady’s status with the team as Volquest.com reported the junior signal-caller is “contemplating his future” with the program. Volquest also reported Tennesse has decided to start redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano at quarterback against South Carolina on Saturday.
Dormady has started the first five games of the season but has struggled at times, leading coaches to replace him with Guarantano in the last two games.
Tennessee head coach Butch Jones declined to name a starting quarterback at his weekly press conference on Monday, calling the quarterback competition “open” between Dormady and Guarantano. Offensive coordinator Larry Scott said the same following Monday’s practice.
The expectation is that Guarantano will make his first career start on Saturday in a game the Vols desperately need to win. Tennessee has a 3-2 record overall with an 0-2 record in SEC play and a road trip to Alabama following Saturday’s game against South Carolina.
