GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 12-seeded Tennessee fell to the Gators, 3-0, in Game 1 of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional on Friday night.

In the SEC showdown, the Lady Vols had runners reach base in six out of the seven innings on three hits, three walks and two hit-by-pitches. Overall, eight of UT’s 12 players who saw action at the plate found their way on base.

Aubrey Leach led the team offensively, going 2-for-4, while Jenna Holcomb went 1-for-3 in the outing.

In the circle, Ashley Rogers threw 1.0 inning before Tennessee looked to Matty Moss for long relief. Rogers was tabbed with the loss. The freshman struck out the side but allowed two runs on three hits in the first frame.

With a 2-0 count to start the second, Moss was brought in. She got the leadoff batter to groundout and then went on to work her way out of a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout. Moss threw 5.0 innings total and allowed one run on four hits in the no-decision.

The Gators struck first in the Super Regional, scoring two runs on three hits in the opening frame. Florida drew a walk to start the game and plated the first run on a Kendyl Lindaman RBI double. Consecutive singles to the left side then allowed UF’s first baseman to score.

Tennessee threatened in the top of the third by loading the bases. Holcomb and Leach led off with back-to-back singles before Kaili Phillips reached on a fielder’s choice to third. Ashley Morgan was then plunked on the arm to put three ducks on the pond before a pop-up to second ended the threat.

In the fifth inning, Florida extended its lead by one run. After a lead-off single, the Gator’s Jaimie Hoover knocked an RBI double to the left-center gap, making it a 3-0 game.

The Orange and White’s bats grew quiet until the seventh when Leach hit a two-out single to shortstop. She was left stranded as a strikeout ended the game for the 3-0 final.

200 K’s: With her three fanned batters in the first inning, freshman Ashley Rogers reached the 200-strikeout mark. Caylan Arnold recorded 227 K’s last season, but Rogers is the first freshman pitcher to notch over 200 strikeouts since Ellen Renfroe threw 259 strikeouts in 2011.

ON DECK: Tennessee looks to even the series tomorrow night in order to keep the season going. Game 2 of the Super Regional will be played at 6 p.m. ET and aired on ESPN. Sports Radio WNML AM 990, UTSports.com and the Tennessee Gameday App will also carry a live radio broadcast.
