In less than a year, Real ID licenses will be required to access certain Federal buildings, entering nuclear facilities and boarding commercial flights within the United States, beginning May 3rd of next year it will be required.
Many people may have forgotten all about the REAL ID Act of 2005.
It establishes minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibits Federal agencies from accepting driver licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the Act’s minimum standards. It was set to take effect in Tennessee before the pandemic hit.
You do NOT need a REAL ID to Drive, Vote, Access hospitals, Visit the post office or Apply for or receive federal benefits such as social security or veterans’ benefits.
