LOY EARNS NCBWA FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICA HONORS

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Tennessee’s Dylan Loy was named a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-American on Monday afternoon, earning second team honors as a relief pitcher.

The lefthander from just up the road in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is the seventh Vol to earn Freshman All-America honors under head coach Tony Vitello. UT has now had at least one player earn Freshman All-America accolades in each of the last four seasons.

Loy made 19 appearances and five starts for the Big Orange during his debut season on Rocky Top and had an especially impressive finish to the year, earning more trust from the coaching staff.

The freshman went 2-0 and posted a 2.25 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP in 28.0 innings pitched, striking out 33 batters while holding opposing hitters to a paltry .192 batting average.

Loy’s most impressive outing came in the SEC Tournament Championship game against LSU, when the lefty tossed 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits while tying a career high with five strikeouts to earn the win.
