KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee edge rusher Joshua Josephs was tabbed the Senior Bowl Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following his impressive performance in the Volunteers’ 41-34 overtime road win at Mississippi State.
The senior from Kennesaw, Georgia, finished with a career-high nine tackles to go along with 1.5 tackles for loss and returned a Tyre West strip sack 41 yards for a touchdown to give UT a 27-24 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Josephs is having a stellar senior season, leading all defensive linemen on the team with 22 tackles while also leading the Vols with 5.5 tackles for loss and ranking tied for second with three sacks. He also has a pair of pass breakups, three quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble to his credit.
Josephs 88.9 pass rush grade according to PFF.com is the third best in the SEC (min. 100 snaps) through five weeks this season.
The Big Orange have an open date this weekend before returning to action on Oct. 11 to take on Arkansas at Neyland Stadium.
