The Tennessee men’s basketball team is, for the second straight year, coming off perhaps its finest campaign ever. The Volunteers finished 30-8 (12-6 SEC) in 2024-25 and, for the second consecutive time, made the Elite Eight and placed fifth in the final polls. Rick Barnes, the active wins leader among all Division I coaches, enters his 11th year at the helm on Rocky Top with 836 career victories. He returns four letter winners for 2025-26, as well as welcomes nine new scholarship players, including a First Team All-Big Ten pick, senior guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie, and the highest-ranked recruit in program history, freshman forward Nate Ament.
The Lady Vols, meanwhile, enter the 2025-26 campaign with lofty expectations as the No. 7 team in ESPN’s “Way-Too-Early” Top 25 after showcasing a high-scoring offense and pressure defense approach in Kim Caldwell‘s first season a year ago. The UT women return three of their top four scorers and rebounders, including All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Defensive Team performer Talaysia Cooper, and welcomed the nation’s No. 1 transfer class and a freshman signing group ranked No. 1 or 2 in the nation by recruiting services.
The Vols’ non-conference slate is headlined by a Dec. 16 contest with a Louisville team that went 27-8 (18-2 ACC) last year. The team also meets Mercer on Nov. 3, Northern Kentucky on Nov. 8, North Florida on Nov. 12, Rice on Nov. 17, Tennessee State on Nov. 20, Gardner-Webb on Dec. 21 and South Carolina State on Dec. 30. Additionally, Tennessee squares off with Duke in an Oct. 26 preseason affair that is already sold out.
In league competition, the men again have a loaded slate, with eight of the nine matchups against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year , including four versus Sweet 16 competitors. Tennessee will host Texas on Jan. 6 or 7, Texas A&M on Jan. 13 or 14, Kentucky on Jan. 17, Auburn on Jan. 31, Ole Miss on Feb. 3 or 4, LSU on Feb. 14, Oklahoma on Feb. 17, Alabama on Feb. 28 and Vanderbilt on March 7.
The UT women, meanwhile, open the home slate with an exhibition game on Oct. 29 vs. Columbus State (Ga.) and follow with November home tilts vs. East Tennessee State on Nov. 7, Belmont on Nov. 13 and Coppin State on Nov. 23. Winthrop and Southern Indiana close out the list of non-conference home games on Dec. 14 and 22, respectively.
In conference action, the Lady Vols play host to two teams ranked in ESPN’s preseason poll, including No. 4 Texas on Feb. 15 and No. 17 Vanderbilt on March 1. Also making appearances on The Summitt are Florida in the league opener on Jan. 1, Arkansas on Jan. 11, Kentucky on Jan. 22, Mississippi State on Jan. 29, Missouri on Feb. 12 and Texas A&M on Feb. 19.
Besides using AllVols.com, fans can also purchase tickets by calling the UT Ticket Office at 1-800-332-VOLS between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
