KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee redshirt junior punter Jackson Ross was recognized on the Ray Guy Award’s “Ray’s 8 of the Week” for his performance against Alabama last Saturday.
Ross was one of four Power Four punters on the list and the only one in the SEC after all three of his punts against the Crimson Tide landed inside the 10-yard line, including one at the 1-yard line. Ross averaged 46.3 yards per punt with a long of 53 yards.
For the season, Ross leads the nation in percentage of punts landing inside the 20-yard line, as 15 of his 22 punts (68.2 percent) have done so. Ross is averaging 44.4 yards per punt for the season and 43.4 yards per punt for his career, which ranks third in Tennessee history.
Ray Guy Award Watch List nominees can be named to Ray’s 8. Punters listed on Ray’s 8 are eligible to be chosen as the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week. Ray’s 8 and Punter of the Week are determined by the Ray Guy Award Committee.
