Sweetwater, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – Sweetwater Police say a suspect in a bank robbery is taken into custody after a bank fraud investigation.
The fraud investigation began Monday (11/10) after receiving reports of incidents that happened November 6 to November 8th.
Detectives identified three suspects and a vehicle who were later found by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.
After a brief foot chase with one of the suspects, they were all taken into custody. The main suspect, 62-year-old Eddie Montgomery, was found to be wanted out of Atlanta in connection to a 2024 bank robbery. U.S. Marshals took him into custody and he was taken back to Georgia.
The other suspect who ran from police, 50-year-old Marvin Jenkins, was linked to several felony crimes in Sweetwater with additional warrants issued for him. A third suspect was not identified.
SPD says more than $15,000 in cash in addition to fraudulent check identifications were recovered during the investigation.
