Belmont leaving OVC for MVC in 2022

Belmont announced Tuesday that it has accepted an invitation to join the Missouri Valley Conference beginning in the fall of 2022.

The Bruins, who currently play in the Ohio Valley Conference, will become the 11th school in the MVC.

“On behalf of our coaches and athletic staff, we are thrilled to become the newest member of the Missouri Valley Conference,” Belmont director of athletics Scott Corley said in a statement. “Joining the MVC will elevate our level of competition, enhance our recruiting, and increase our opportunities for national exposure.”

Belmont leaves the OVC after nine years.

The Bruins become the fourth school to announce a departure from the OVC this year, which will leave the conference with eight teams. Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State and Austin Peay are all moving to the Atlantic Sun.
