Braves halt 3-game skid with victory over Brewers

Marcell Ozuna and Ozzie Albies hit back-to-back homers and Drew Smyly pitched six strong innings to lead the visiting Atlanta Braves to a 6-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers and snap their three-game losing streak.

Ozuna hit his sixth homer, a 439-foot bomb, and Albies followed with his sixth home run in the fifth inning off reliever Eric Lauer.

Smyly (2-2) posted his second straight impressive outing. Working with extra rest, the left-hander pitched six innings and gave up one run on four hits, one walk and four strikeouts. In his last two starts, Smyly has allowed two runs, one earned, in 12 innings.

Milwaukee starter Adrian Houser (3-4) only lasted three innings, his shortest stint of the season. He allowed two runs on two hits, five walks and three strikeouts. Houser also hit a batter, threw a wild pitch and was called for a balk — all in the third inning when the Braves scored twice.

The Brewers scored a run in the second inning on a run-scoring single to left by Luis Urias.

The Braves scored two times in the third on a two-run single from Austin Riley for a 2-1 lead.

Holding a 4-1 lead, Atlanta added a run in the seventh when Dansby Swanson put down a squeeze bunt that scored Freddie Freeman and then tacked on another run in the eighth on Ender Inciarte’s bloop single.

The Brewers got a pair of home runs against reliever Josh Tomlin in the ninth inning. Urias hit his fourth homer and Manny Pina followed with his third. It forced the Braves to bring in closer Will Smith to get the final two outs and nail down the win.

The Braves played without right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr., who injured his left ankle on Thursday. X-rays were negative but Acuna was too sore to play Friday. He could return on Saturday.
