An estimated 84 adults fell ill after attending the K Academy, an adult fantasy basketball camp led by Mike Krzyzewski, earlier this month, Duke University announced.
The attendees were exposed to the bacteria Legionella during the camp that ran Aug. 11-15, per the school’s announcement.
Those who fell ill experienced flu-like symptoms, including fever, muscle fatigue, nausea and respiratory distress.
Duke’s statement said that none of its student-athletes were exposed to the bacteria.
The camp promises its attendees that they will “live, train and feel Duke Basketball like never before.” Its cost is $12,500, according to its website.
Krzyzewski is entering his final season as the coach at Duke. Earlier this year, he announced plans to retire following the 2021-22 season, and associate head coach and former Blue Devil player Jon Scheyer was tapped to replace him.
