Report: Chiefs OC Bieniemy top choice to replace Tucker

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy could be called home to coach Colorado.

According to reports, Bieniemy is a leading candidate to replace Mel Tucker, who is expected to be named head coach at Michigan State after initially turning down the job to stay at Colorado.

Bieniemy played running back for the Buffaloes — he’s the all-time leading rusher in program history — and was a candidate for head-coaching openings in the NFL last month. He was not hired, but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid labeled Bieniemy as “ready right now” when asked about his candidacy during Super Bowl media sessions.

Reid has produced several successful head coaches, including Doug Pederson (Eagles) and John Harbaugh (Ravens), who’ve won the Super Bowl.

Bieniemy’s agent, Brian Levy, told ESPN after the Super Bowl that winning the big one with the Chiefs should only boost his candidate for future NFL openings.

“If in fact there’s any vindication, it’s the fact he will be wearing a ring the next time he goes into interviews,” Levy said. “Whoever he sits in front of will have to look at that ring during the entire interview.”
