Report: HOF coach Herb Magee retiring after this season

Hall of Fame coach Herb Magee will retire after the 2021-22 season at Philadelphia’s Thomas Jefferson University, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday.

Magee, who turned 80 in June, has won 1,123 games since taking the reins at the Division II program — formerly known as Philadelphia Textile — back in 1967.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, who is also entering his final season, is the only coach in all divisions with more wins at 1,170.

Magee was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011 and celebrated his 1,000th win at his alma mater in 2015.

Jefferson did not play last season due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The Rams compete in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
