Minnesota guard Both Gach intends to put his name in the transfer portal and leave the Golden Gophers, according to a report from the Minneapolis Star Tribune on Monday.
Gach averaged 6.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 29 games (16 starts) last season. The 6-foot-6 player averaged 14.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in seven nonconference games but struggled to match that production in more physical contests within the Big Ten.
Now, Gach plans to look for his third program to join after spending his first two seasons with Utah.
Minnesota changed coaches this offseason, with Ben Johnson replacing Richard Pitino. The Golden Gophers’ roster also has undergone significant change as 10 players have entered the transfer portal this spring and Minnesota has picked up six other transfers, the Star Tribune reported.
Gach’s expected departure does not necessarily mean that Minnesota will sign a player to fill his roster spot.
“I don’t know if we’ll end up using all 13 scholarships,” Johnson said. “We’re not just going to use them to use them. We’ll be smart with the guys we end up taking. The main focus is to get a good core and good depth.”
