SEC postpones Florida-LSU

SEC postpones Florida-LSU

There will be no game Saturday between Southeastern Conference rivals Florida and LSU.

The SEC has tentatively rescheduled the game to Dec. 12 because of an outbreak of COVID-19 among the Gators.

No. 10 Florida shut down all football activities and closed its coaching and administrative building in Gainesville, Fla., after 19 positive tests for the virus.

“The LSU at Florida football game of October 17 has been postponed due to positive tests and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Florida football program, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements,” the SEC said in a statement.

The conference reserved the Dec. 12 date for potential rescheduled games as COVID-19 outbreaks were projected to occur.

Florida is off to a 2-1 start after a 41-38 loss to Texas A&M. LSU is 1-2 after losing last weekend at Missouri.

“As we get more numbers, we’re getting a better idea of trying to trace the origins of it,” Florida coach Dan Mullen said. “We have not been able to do that.”

LSU coach Ed Orgeron, who said prior to the season most of his team had the coronavirus in July, said Wednesday morning that he didn’t expect this game to be played as scheduled.

Another SEC game scheduled to be played Saturday, Missouri at Vanderbilt, also was postponed.

The timing could benefit LSU, which listed starting quarterback Myles Brennan as doubtful.
