Titans DT Tart loses appeal of one-game suspension

Tennessee Titans rookie defensive tackle Teair Tart lost his appeal of a one-game suspension for stepping on the leg of Cleveland Browns guard Wyatt Teller and will miss Sunday’s contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

NFL senior vice president Michael Signora said that hearing officer James Thrash affirmed the suspension. Thrash was jointly chosen to hear the appeal by the NFL and NFL Players Association.

Teller blocked Tart in the backfield in the second quarter of last Sunday’s game between the Browns and Titans and fell to the turf. As play moved upfield, Tart ran in that direction and stepped on the back of Teller’s right leg.

Tart was suspended for one game without pay on Monday for the unsportsmanlike conduct. The discipline was handed down by NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan, who termed the act as unnecessarily stepping on an opponent.

Tart has two tackles in five games this season.

Tennessee also will be without cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson (knee) and Breon Borders (hip). Jackson has yet to play this season but practiced this week and is moving closer to a return.
