KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story Courtesy of WVLT) – The Tennessee Valley Authority board decided to keep the Kingston Fossil Plant operational, reversing previous plans to shut down the facility.
The TVA board made the decision on Wednesday. TVA said plans were in place to ease the plant towards a shutdown, as that was announced back in 2024.
Wade Creswell, an official in Roane County, says now more than 200 jobs are going to be saved.
“The 250 people who work here every day, get up every morning to keep our power turned on,” Creswell said. “This is huge for them to be able to stay right here without TVA finding alternative placement for them,” Creswell said.
The plant was still operating as normal even though it was going to be shut down.
Candace Vannasdell is the general manager of Harriman Utility Board. She says she’s excited to see this plant up and running and the gas one.
The TVA Gas Complex behind the fossil plant will be opening up in the future.
