BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a dominant weekend at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational, Tennessee sophomore Erin Nuwer was named SEC Pitcher of the Week.
The right-hander tossed 10 innings and earned three wins, including victories over No. 11 Nebraska and No. 6 UCLA. Nuwer threw a complete-game shutout against UCLA, allowing just one hit. It marked the first time the Bruins had been one-hit since 2022.
She finished the tournament with 13 strikeouts, four walks and just two hits allowed, not surrendering a run across her 10 innings of work.
The East Aurora, New York, native earned her first career SEC weekly honor. It also marks back-to-back weeks a Tennessee pitcher has received the award after Karlyn Pickens was named pitcher of the week following the opening weekend of the season.
Since Megan Rhodes Smith returned to Rocky Top as pitching coach in 2021, the Lady Vols have earned 15 SEC Pitcher of the Week honors.
