KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) – The University of Tennessee has released a proposal to increase in-state undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees for the 2026–27 academic year.
The UT Board of Trustees will consider the proposal during its annual meeting on June 30. According to officials, the proposed increases remain below the maximum 4.5% cap set by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
UT System President Randy Boyd said the university remains focused on affordability while maintaining quality.
“UT remains committed to keeping college affordable while delivering a high-quality education that prepares students for lifelong success,” Boyd said.
University officials highlighted programs like UT Promise, which helps cover remaining tuition and fees for eligible students after financial aid is applied. They say about 55% of UT students graduate debt-free, and 86% of graduates are employed or in graduate school within six months.
The public can review details of the proposal and submit comments through June 22 at 6 p.m.
