KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Seven senior centers and aging programs in Knox County are set to receive a combined $293,000 in state grant funding through the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging.
The funding was announced by Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, Sen. Becky Massey, and Sen. Richard Briggs, who highlighted the importance of senior centers in helping older Tennesseans remain active, engaged and supported within their communities.
“Senior centers help older Tennesseans stay active, connected and supported in their own communities,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “We’re proud to see this investment reach seven Knox County organizations that serve older adults and their families.”
The grants are part of a $5 million statewide investment in senior centers approved by the Tennessee General Assembly in this year’s state budget.
Knox County Grant Recipients
- Carter Senior Center — $50,000
- Concord Adult Day Enrichment Services — $50,000
- Corryton Senior Center — $50,000
- Halls Senior Center — $13,000
- John T. O’Connor Senior Center — $50,000
- Karns Senior Center — $30,000
- South Knoxville Senior Center — $50,000
State officials said the grants were awarded through a competitive application process. In total, the Department of Disability and Aging distributed 122 grants statewide, supporting programs that provide services, activities and resources for Tennessee’s growing senior population.
Leaders say the funding will help local organizations continue offering programs that promote health, social engagement and quality of life for older adults across Knox County.
