KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) –
An early morning fire destroyed an abandoned structure in East Knox County, prompting a response from multiple Rural Metro Fire crews.
According to Rural Metro Fire, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 7:00 a.m. Sunday to a reported structure fire near the intersection of Thorngrove Pike and Cooper Road.
Upon arrival, crews discovered an abandoned building completely engulfed in flames. The structure was surrounded by heavy brush, raising concerns that the fire could spread into nearby wooded areas.
Firefighters quickly launched an aggressive attack on the blaze, focusing not only on extinguishing the structure fire but also on preventing the flames from spreading beyond the immediate area.
Officials said crews successfully contained the fire and protected surrounding vegetation from catching fire.
Investigators later confirmed the structure was abandoned and unoccupied at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported among firefighters or civilians.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
Authorities have not announced any citations, fines, or criminal charges related to the fire. Investigators will work to determine whether the blaze was accidental or intentionally set.
