Public Meeting to Focus on National Register of Historic Places Process
CLINTON, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Anderson County officials are encouraging residents to take part in a community discussion about historic preservation and the process for listing properties on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Anderson County Mayor’s Office has scheduled a public meeting for Monday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. at the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce, located at 500 N. Charles Seivers Boulevard in Clinton.
The meeting is designed to give residents a better understanding of how historic properties are nominated and added to the National Register of Historic Places, while also providing an opportunity for community members to share their perspectives on preserving Anderson County’s historic landmarks.
Among the guest speakers will be East Tennessee Development District Historic Preservation Planner Angie Clifton Thiel, who will discuss the listing process and the benefits available to property owners whose sites receive historic designation.
Officials say those benefits may include eligibility for certain grants, tax incentives and other preservation-related assistance programs.
Anderson County already has a number of locations recognized for their historic significance. Notable sites listed on the National Register include the Oak Ridge Historic District, Briceville Community Church, Arnewine Cabin, and the Ritz Theatre, among others.
County leaders hope the meeting will help residents better understand the value of preserving local history while providing input on future preservation efforts.
The event is free and open to the public, and no registration is required to attend.
