Five-star senior forward Asa Montgomery announced his commitment to Duke on Wednesday.
Montgomery gives coach Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils seven consecutive recruiting classes with a top-10 prospect, per ESPN.
Montgomery, who plays for Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs, Ga., is rated the No. 8 player in the country, No. 3 small forward and No. 2 player in Georgia in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Montgomery visited Duke in early October and chose the Blue Devils after also taking official visits to Georgia Tech, UConn, LSU and North Carolina.
“The Duke visit had a different feeling,” Montgomery told ESPN. “Everything felt right. It was a dream school for me since I was 8 years old. I wanted to go to Duke and actually play for Coach K. Coach Jon Scheyer kept it real with me from day one. Duke wins, and I can trust him.”
Montgomery, who won a gold medal with the U.S. under-17 team at the 2026 FIBA World Cup, lauded the Duke campus as beautiful and “crazy for basketball.” He also praised Scheyer.
“He spent time with me and broke down my game, pointing out little details. They see me as a Dame Sarr-type player,” Montgomery said in reference to the Blue Devils sophomore guard/forward. “In practice, Coach Scheyer keeps it real and pushes the team hard. That’s what I’m looking for.”
Duke also has commitments in the Class of 2027 from five-star small forward Kager Knueppel, brother of former Blue Devils standout Kon Knueppel, and Australian guard Luke Paul.
