DeWayne Brown II had a massive double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds, Terrence Hill Jr. added 17 points and No. 8 Tennessee started its new campaign with a 90-59 rout of Wofford on Tuesday night in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Volunteers (1-0) transformed a close game at halftime into a blowout early in the second half, turning their skill and physical advantage into a 28-7 run.
Tyler Lundblade scored 12 points by knocking down 4 of 9 shots from long range. Troy Henderson tallied 10 as the Volunteers made 34 of 65 (52.3%) of their field-goal attempts.
Cam Lowe recorded 14 points and four rebounds for the Terriers (0-1). Cutter Sisk and Chris Arias scored 10 points apiece. Evan Ramsey had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Tennessee brought in plenty of offense in the offseason as only one player from last season returned, and the group displayed its new look with the basketball right away.
In the first five minutes, Brown, the team’s only returning post player, threw down an emphatic dunk, and new sharpshooter Lundblade canned two 3-pointers for a 12-6 lead over the Southern Conference team from South Carolina.
Wofford — which lost to Tennessee 77-62 in an NCAA Tournament first-round game in 2025 — hung in and took its first lead at 10:29 on Chace Watley’s layup, but Lundblade drilled his third trey from the top of the arc to knot it 18-all.
The Volunteers’ Henderson and the Terriers’ Lowe traded deep balls with less than two minutes to play. Hill, who had 11 points in the opening 20 minutes, sank a pair of free throws as the home team led 34-31.
In a fast opening to the second half, Tennessee roared out on a 20-5 run behind six points, including two dunks, by Miles Rubin and one long ball apiece from Lundblade and Juke Harris. Hill’s strip and breakaway layup pushed the advantage to 54-36.
Nearly five minutes in, Wofford lost Jacob Daniels to an apparent leg injury. He was helped to the locker room after scoring two points.
Christian Fermin’s late layup gave the Volunteers their largest at 90-58.
