Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released its schedule of planned sobriety checkpoints for September, with enforcement locations set for numerous counties across East Tennessee.
State law requires law enforcement agencies to announce sobriety checkpoints in advance. The checkpoints are designed to identify impaired drivers and improve roadway safety.
Several checkpoints are scheduled in the Knoxville area and surrounding counties throughout the month.
Knox County Checkpoints
Motorists in Knox County can expect sobriety checkpoints at the following locations:
- Sept. 4: Schaad Road at Pleasant Ridge Road
- Sept. 12: Cherokee Trail at Cherokee Bluff Drive
- Sept. 25: Mascot Road at McBee Lane
Anderson County
- Sept. 4: U.S. 441 at Island Home Baptist Church
Campbell County
- Sept. 25: Demory Road at White Bridge
Claiborne County
- Sept. 7: State Route 33 near the Union County line
Cumberland County
- Sept. 8: Highway 70 at Pomona Road
- Sept. 18: Highway 299 at Airport Road
Grainger County
- Sept. 5: U.S. 11W near Owl Hole Gap
Greene County
- Sept. 4: State Route 340 east of the Greene-Hamblen county line
- Sept. 18: U.S. 321 north of the Nolichucky River Bridge
- Sept. 30: State Route 93 at the former Lane’s Grocery location
Hancock County
- Sept. 4: State Route 33 near St. James the Apostle Catholic Church
Hamblen County
- Sept. 11: State Route 343 at Buffalo Trail near Cherokee Drive
McMinn County
- Sept. 5: Highway 11 at State Route 309
- Sept. 12: State Route 305 at County Road 250
Sevier County
- Sept. 25: State Route 338 at Roberts Road
Roane County
- Sept. 25: U.S. 70 at Caney Creek Road
THP says the checkpoints are intended to reduce impaired driving crashes and increase public awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
