KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is examining an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning at a Weigel’s convenience store in the 7500 block of Clinton Highway.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the store after receiving reports of a suspicious individual who was allegedly acting erratically.
Details about what occurred after deputies arrived have not yet been released. However, the incident escalated and resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
As is standard procedure in many officer-involved shooting cases, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation and will be responsible for determining the sequence of events and gathering evidence. The agency is expected to conduct interviews, review physical evidence, and evaluate any available video footage.
Authorities have not released information on the identity or condition of the individual involved, nor have they indicated whether any deputy was injured during the incident.
At this time, there is no word on potential criminal charges, citations, or fines connected to the incident. Investigators are expected to determine whether any laws were violated as part of their review.
Officials are advising residents and motorists to avoid the immediate area of Clinton Highway near the Weigel’s location due to a significant law enforcement presence while investigators continue their work.
