Brandon Miller scored a career-high 39 points and the Charlotte Hornets held off the visiting Washington Wizards for Monday night’s 110-103 victory for their first back-to-back wins of the young season.
Miller made 15 of 28 shots from the field, including five 3-pointers.
Naz Reid added 18 points and 12 rebounds for Charlotte, while Grayson Allen scored 15 off the bench, including seven from the free-throw line. Moussa Diabate chipped in 11 points and 17 rebounds.
Anthony Davis scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wizards, hitting three of Washington’s nine 3-point attempts. Trae Young added 22 points and 10 assists, Kyshawn George posted 20 points and Alex Sarr had 12 points.
The Wizards lost the battle on the boards, especially as the Hornets grabbed 20 offensive rebounds.
Miller had horrid shooting outings in the first two games of the season and now he has eclipsed the 30-point mark in consecutive games.
Miller’s previous career high was 38 points against the Detroit Pistons on Nov. 21, 2024.
Charlotte stormed to a 54-44 halftime lead despite a sluggish start to the final game of a three-game homestand.
The Hornets carried a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter before Washington mounted a late comeback, getting as close as 103-100.
Young went 10 of 20 from the field but attempted only one free throw.
The teams combined for 32 free-throw attempts. The Hornets were whistled for only 15 fouls.
The Wizards received only 17 points from their reserves.
The start of the game didn’t suggest the Hornets would have a big night offensively. Washington led 21-19 at the end of the first quarter, while Charlotte shot 33.3% from the field and went 1-for-11 from 3-point range.
The Hornets played again without injured Kon Knueppel, Coby White and Grant Williams.
