Knox County, TN (WOKI/WVLT) – Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Detectives David Amburn has entered the race for sheriff.
It comes just days after KCSO Chief Deputy Bernie Lyon, who was also running for sheriff, was laid to rest after passing away in December.
The office of Knox County sheriff is limited to two consecutive terms, which means this year, voters will have to replace current Sheriff Tom Spangler.
Amburn filed the first of his paperwork, naming Ruth Ann Milsaps as his treasurer on Sunday.
Also in the running for sheriff is Brent Gibson, who has more than two decades of law enforcement, Jimmy “J.J.” Jones, who has previously served as Knox County’s sheriff and Mike Davis, who has a long history working in law enforcement.
