SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT)— An East Tennessee man is facing serious charges after authorities say a newborn was found with injuries consistent with abuse.
According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began last year when the infant was hospitalized with concerning injuries. Detectives launched a child abuse investigation, gathering evidence and presenting the case to a grand jury.
As a result, 35-year-old Zachary Selke of Kingsport has been indicted on two counts of aggravated child abuse and neglect involving a child under the age of eight.
Sheriff’s officials say Selke was arrested Friday and taken to the Sullivan County Jail. He has since been released after posting a $150,000 bond.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
