KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI)— University of Tennessee football players and staff are partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee to host a large-scale food distribution aimed at helping hundreds of local families.
The mobile pantry event is scheduled for Friday, May 29, from 1:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at First Apostolic Church on Pleasant Ridge Road in Knoxville.
Organizers say the drive-through distribution is expected to serve approximately 500 families experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers, Second Harvest staff and UT football players will work together at multiple stations to load food directly into vehicles.
Families attending will receive a mix of fresh and shelf-stable items, including fruits and vegetables, chicken, beef stew, pasta, beans and other essentials.
The event is part of ongoing efforts to meet growing demand for food assistance across East Tennessee while connecting community organizations with neighbors in need.
Second Harvest officials say the distribution also highlights the power of partnerships between local groups and volunteers to address hunger in the region.
