Knoxville, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Three Knox County Sheriff’s Office employees charged in a theft conspiracy case have filed for retirement, according to Knox County officials.
The executive director of Knox County Retirement confirmed that Assistant Chief Deputy David Amburn, along with Captains Aaron Yarnell and James Hammond, submitted retirement applications last month. Their retirements are set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
The filings come amid a wider investigation that led to charges against 11 current and former KCSO employees. According to an indictment, the defendants are accused of misusing the sheriff’s office narcotics credit card and a seized cash fund for unauthorized personal purchases.
Investigators also allege the group used department resources and equipment to complete personal projects while on duty.
All 11 individuals charged in the case are scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on July 1 at 9 a.m.
No additional details have been released.
