KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — The Tennessee Valley Authority is inviting the public to explore some of its most iconic infrastructure as part of a major national milestone.
In recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence, TVA announced it will open four historic dams to visitors for free, behind-the-scenes tours in July.
The scheduled tours include:
- Raccoon Mountain on July 8
- Kentucky Dam on July 16
- Fontana Dam on July 27
- Norris Dam on July 29
TVA officials say the initiative is designed to highlight the agency’s nearly century-long impact on the region and its role in shaping modern America.
“These behind-the-scenes experiences shine a spotlight on monumental public works that helped electrify rural America, fuel wartime production, strengthen national security, and continue to uplift generations of families across the Tennessee Valley,” TVA said in a statement.
While registration for the tours is open to everyone, participation will be limited. TVA says only a select group of applicants, chosen at random, will be allowed to take part in the guided tours.
Even those who are not selected will still have an opportunity to take part in the celebration. TVA says America 250-themed giveaways will be available at staffed visitor centers starting July 8, while supplies last.
The tours are part of a broader nationwide effort to commemorate 250 years of American history, with TVA emphasizing its continuing commitment to service, innovation, and regional growth.
More details and registration information are available through TVA’s official website.
