NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett is reminding registered voters across the state that early voting for the August 6 State Primary and County General Election begins next week.
Early voting starts Friday, July 17, and continues through Saturday, August 1, giving voters more than two weeks to cast their ballots before Election Day.
Hargett encouraged Tennesseans to make their voting plans now and take advantage of the convenience offered by early voting locations across the state.
“Early voting makes it easy for registered Tennesseans to participate in the electoral process,” Hargett said. “With early voting beginning next week, now is the time to make a plan to vote. I encourage every eligible voter to take advantage of this convenient opportunity and participate in shaping the future of their communities, state, and nation.”
State election officials are urging voters to confirm their registration status, review sample ballots, and locate polling places before heading to vote.
Voters can access election information through the GoVoteTN mobile app or by visiting GoVoteTN.gov. The website and app provide polling locations, voting hours, voter registration information, sample ballots, and election resources.
Officials also remind voters that anyone casting a ballot in person during early voting or on Election Day must present a valid photo identification issued by the federal government or the State of Tennessee. Expired Tennessee or federal photo IDs are also accepted.
However, college student IDs, identification cards issued by local governments, IDs from other states, and non-U.S. citizen identification cards are not accepted for voting purposes in Tennessee.
Information about voter ID exemptions and obtaining a free state-issued photo ID is available at GoVoteTN.gov.
The State Primary and County General Election will be held on Thursday, August 6.
