CAMPBELL COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT)— A Campbell County woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of multiple counts of aggravated child abuse involving her infant twin sons.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, 28-year-old Holly Daugherty was sentenced August 3 by Judge Zachary R. Walden on three counts of aggravated child abuse of a child under eight years of age, each a Class A felony under Tennessee law.
The convictions followed a trial in which a Campbell County jury found Daugherty guilty on all three counts.
Prosecutors said the state presented evidence showing that Daugherty inflicted severe, non-accidental injuries on her infant twin children while they were in her care. After hearing the evidence, jurors returned guilty verdicts on each charge.
Under Tennessee law, the sentence is required to be served in its entirety, meaning Daugherty will not be eligible for early release on the conviction.
The District Attorney’s Office thanked the law enforcement officers, medical professionals, and other individuals involved in investigating and prosecuting the case.
Officials did not release additional details about the injuries suffered by the children.
