Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – A proactive patrol by the Knoxville Police Department led to the arrest of a man accused of carrying multiple loaded firearms and a large quantity of marijuana in the Lonsdale community.
According to police, officers conducting walking patrols Friday morning encountered a man acting suspiciously near Pascal Drive and Cornelia Cartwright Avenue. Officers stopped the individual and launched an investigation into the situation.
The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Sovereign Matthews. During the investigation, officers discovered Matthews was allegedly in possession of a loaded assault rifle, a loaded handgun, and nearly 200 grams of marijuana.
Police said Matthews was taken into custody and charged with sale and delivery of a Schedule VI controlled substance, as well as possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
The arrest was the result of ongoing patrol efforts in the Lonsdale neighborhood, where officers were conducting foot patrols aimed at addressing crime and improving public safety.
In announcing the arrest, the Knoxville Police Department praised the officers involved, citing their vigilance and commitment to keeping the community safe.
The case remains under investigation.
