Max Homa moves ahead in second round of Masters

Max Homa posted birdies on two of the first four holes of the second round Friday to move atop the leaderboard in the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

Homa completed the first round with five holes Friday morning before a quick turnaround to begin the second round. He shot 2-under for the first nine holes of the second round, including a 34-foot birdie putt on the par-3 fourth hole.

Shortly after, he was alone as the leader at 7 under because first-round leader Bryson DeChambeau, who posted a 7-under-par 65 in the first round, took a bogey on the fourth hole following three pars to start his second round.

With a 1:48 p.m. ET tee time, 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler will be one of the final golfers to reach the midway mark of the tournament. He was in second place at 6 under through the completion of the first round.

Australian Cam Davis was the first golfer to complete the second round with an under-par score for the tournament. He shot even-par 72 on Friday to stay at 3 under.

Five-time champion Tiger Woods, who finished the first round at 73 by completing five holes Friday morning, stayed at 1 over for the tournament through nine holes of the second round. Woods had three birdies, three bogeys and three pars midway through the second round. His birdie on the par-3 No. 6 came via a chip-in from near the green.

The top 50 golfers, including those tied at that mark, will make the cut. Woods ranked around 35th halfway through his second round, but some golfers had yet to begin their second 18 holes.

After a 2 1/2-hour delay because of weather concerns Thursday morning, the tournament appears to be on schedule for all golfers to finish their second rounds Friday.
