Man Gets 31-Year Sentence for Child Sexual Assault, Knox County DA Says

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) A man is sentenced Friday to 31 years in prison for multiple child sex crimes.

Officials with District Attorney Charme Allen’s office say 40-year-old Carl Richard Chesney was convicted of rape of a child, sexual activity involving a minor and two counts of sexual battery and rape.

During the trial, attorneys said Chesney began assaulting the victim in 2010 when they were five years old. The assault reportedly continued until the victim was 12.

“Despite years of abuse, this child had the bravery to step forward and confront her abuser,” said DA Charme Allen. “We will continue to stand with victims and hold their abusers accountable.”

Chesney did not get a parole option.

McGhee Tyson Airport to Begin Parking Garage Expansion, Will Close Portion of Long-Term Lot

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) McGhee Tyson Airport will be closing a portion of its long-term parking lot to begin a parking garage expansion project.

Airport officials making that announcement Friday, February 2.

The new airport garage will be six stories and add 3,500 parking spots adjacent to the airport terminal building.

McGhee Tyson will still offer limited garage parking in the long-term lot, and guests will still have access to the short-term parking lot.

To offset the partial closure of the long-term lot, officials will add more than 1,000 parking spaces in the airport’s new Economy Lot C. According to the airport, there will be a 24-hour service shuttle that will transport passengers and guests to and from the airport terminal building which should take approximately 15 minutes.

Airport officials suggest passengers plan to arrive at least two hours before scheduled departure times.

White Pine, TN (WOKI) Police in White Pine Friday arrest a man in connection to the hit and run death of a semi-truck driver in the parking lot of a Pilot gas station last month.

Officials with the White Pine Police Department announcing the arrest of John R. Emery Jr. of Chattanooga who was wanted for allegedly striking 64-year-old Gary M. Clark of Prattville, Alabama with his semi while Clark was walking through the parking lot of the Pilot Travel Center on Roy Messer Highway in White Pine on January 12.

Despite other drivers telling Emery he may have possibly run over Clark, Emery drove away from the parking lot.

Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

Knoxville Fire Department Responds to Fire at North Knoxville Tire Store

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) All employees are safe and no injuries are reported following a fire Friday morning at a used tire store in North Knoxville.

Knoxville Fire Department officials say crews responded to a report of a fire at EZ Used Tires on 4715 Central Avenue Pike after receiving a 911 call around 11:20.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy black smoke coming from the basement of the business. Officials say due to the nature of the material burning, crews had to work extensively to put the blaze out but that the entirety of the fire was extinguished just before 12:30.

KFD investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Knoxville Police Investigating a Fatal North Knoxville Shooting have Identified the Victim and Suspect

Knoxville Police are still investigating a fatal shooting in North Knoxville and have arrested a suspect and identified the victim.

KPD says 19 year-old Makah Logan has been arrested and is is charged with first-degree murder in connection to last (Thursday) night’s shooting in the N. Hembree Street and Linden Avenue area.

Officers were called to that scene after 18 year-old Apollo Cannida (Cuh knead ah) was found shot in the alley behind Jarnigan & Sons Mortuary and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation shows the pair were involved in an argument when Logan fired hitting Cannida at least once then fled the scene.

Officer-Involved Shooting as 11 Year-Old Knox County Endangered Child is Found at State Line

An officer-involved shooting in connection to an endangered child alert for 11 year-old Bree Mays out of Knox County who has been found safe at the Tennessee-Georgia line early this morning (Friday).

The suspect was killed in Hamilton County according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office who says the suspect would not follow their requests and ran over at least three Knox County detectives after which Officers shot the suspect who was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) The Knox County Sheriff’s Office announcing Thursday they have arrested a South Doyle High School freshman for threats of violence made on social media.

KCSO officials say the arrest happened just before midnight on Wednesday, January 31. The freshman student is alleged to have made the threats over Snapchat.

The arrest comes a day after KCSO deputies found a loaded pistol magazine inside one of the school’s bathrooms.

Officials say this latest incident is unrelated to Tuesday’s finding.

Knoxville Police Investigating a Fatal Motorcycle Crash has Identified the Victim

An investigation is underway and Knoxville Police have identified the victim from a fatal motorcycle crash.

34 year-old Tyler Beck died in the crash on McKamey Road yesterday (Wednesday) morning. KPD says Beck was going east on McKamey Road when he hit the side of a large Chevy truck that was attempting to turn left onto Saint Lucia Lane from McKamey. The truck remained on the scene.

The Knoxville Fire Department is Investigating a Trailer Fire at a Recycling Facility

The Knoxville Fire department is investigating after a commercial trailer catches fire at Fort Loudon Recycling in North Knoxville.

The call came in just before 5 this morning. (Thursday) this morning and found the trailer on fire in the lot the recycling facility on Hancock Street.

The fire spread to another trailer that was parked nearby and the trailer was loaded with a variety of paper and cardboard products, making putting it out difficult because the paper products had to be dug out by hand.

KFD says extensive overhaul of the fire will be necessary.

No Injuries have been reported.
