Rural Metro Fire Responds to fire in North Knox County

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) A shed is destroyed but no injuries reported Monday afternoon in a fire in North Knox County.

Crews with Rural Metro Fire were dispatched around 1:00 p.m. to the report of a structure fire in the 2300 block of Mynatt Road.

Fire officials say when crews arrived, they found a shed completely engulfed in flames behind an auto garage. They say the garage itself was not damaged, and there were no reported injuries.

Investigators say they are still working to determine the cause of the blaze.

Sevier County, TN (WOKI) In the wake of an investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office, the director of Sevier County Central Dispatch has been placed on leave without pay.

A report from the Comptroller’s Office found that between July 2021 and March 2023 SCCD Director Todd Spence spent almost $10,000 on “questionable purchases” of various items including body armor, clothing, food and other items.

Investigators also found that Spence was teaching multiple first aid classes during working hours without reporting the hours as leave time.

An internal investigation is ongoing; currently, Spence is not facing charges.

Homeschoolers can visit the attraction at a discounted rate before 3:00 p.m. The event is open to homeschool families, teachers, students, and groups.

A Knoxville Physician Assistant has License Suspended Pending Criminal Investigation and Federal Indictment Which Includes Rape

A Knoxville Physician Assistant’s license is suspended pending a criminal investigation and federal indictment.

The Tennessee Department of Health says Aaron Lee Hess was handed down two indictments and is facing 16 counts total of rape, sexual activity involving a minor and other charges.

The board restricted his license and suspended his ability to prescribe schedule II controlled substances pending the criminal case.

Knox County, TN (WOKI) Two members of the same family pleaded guilty Friday, September 15 to animal cruelty following a months-long animal abuse investigation in Knox County.

As part of their sentencing, Michelle Burgess-Morris and her daughter Isabella Morris were ordered to complete 72 hours of community service and are banned from owning any other pets for the rest of their lives unless it’s a single service dog.

Another family member, Haylee Morris, had her case waived for a grand jury to review.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office filed multiple charges against the Morris family back in March after investigating a long list of allegations involving severe neglect and abuse of dozens of animals the family kept in their home on LeClay Drive.

Clarksville, TN (WOKI) Buc-ee’s fans north of Nashville won’t be seeing the plucky beaver anytime soon.

Officials with the popular convenience store chain say plans for a new Buc-ee’s location in Clarksville have been withdrawn over possible traffic issues.

The Buc-ee’s was slated for a location at Exit 1 off Interstate 24 near the Kentucky state line.

Buc-ee’s said it was “no longer confident” in its ability to come to an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) about “necessary traffic improvements.”

Those improvements refer to road work that needed to be done on Exit 1.

Knoxville Police Make an Arrest in Montgomery Village Shooting

A man is arrested in connection to a shooting at Montgomery Village.

The Knoxville Police Department’s Community Engagement Response Team arrested 43-year-old Dexter McMillan last (Thursday) night at an apartment in the 4000 block of Peaks Landing Way.

McMillan wanted on various charges including attempted first-degree murder from a shooting in the 1500 block of Daylily Drive on September 2nd involving a 39-year-old woman who was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
