TBI Charges State Prison Inmate with Murder

A months-long investigation ends in a murder charge for a state prison inmate in Northeast Tennessee.

Forty-eight year old Gregory Barner has been charged with first degree murder in the death of fellow inmate 70-year-old Robert Henry Hicks Jr. back in January; Barner was served the indictment on Thursday, May 25 at the Northeast Correctional Facility.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reports Hicks’ death was the result of a stabbing inside the Northeast Correctional Facility in Johnson County. During their investigation, special agents found that Barner was the one who stabbed Hicks.

Area East Tennessee Pools Opening for Season this Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend has many of us looking to the water.

Community swimming pools and splash pads opening across East Tennessee.

The Oak Ridge pool will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. today (Friday) through Monday, after that will be regular operating hours.

In Knoxville, Inskip Pool and Karns Pool both open tomorrow (Saturday). Inskip Pool operating hours are 11 .m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sundays. Karns pool open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Sundays.

The the outdoor Family Aquatic Center in Sevierville also opens tomorrow, operating hours for the season are 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

The Knox County Parks and Recreation Department’s three splash pads have already opened for the season which runs through Labor Day.

An Arrest of a Juvenile in Connection a Teen Found Dead in a Clinton Home Following a Reported Shooting

Updated story: An arrest made in the death of a teen found in a Clinton home.

A juvenile taken into custody this morning charged with Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection to 19 year-old Payton Bridges’s death, who police believe was shot in a home on Fowler Street yesterday.

The Clinton Police Department and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation still looking into the incident. They say three people, including Bridge’s were in house at the time of the shooting but no parents were home at the time.

Original Story: Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Clinton Police are investigating after a teen is found dead in a home during a suspected shooting.

It happened at a home on Fowler Street in Clinton yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.

Officials say they found a 19-year-old man dead inside and say he was visiting a friend when he died. Police say two other people were inside the home and that the parents were not home during the reported shooting.

The boy’s manner of death has not been determined.

Rural Metro is investigating an early morning house fire in South Knoxville.

Crews called to the scene in the 6200 block of Neubert Springs Road before 5 this morning.

That road closed earlier as crews fought the blaze with equipment blocking the road but has re-opened.

All family members and their pets made it out safe and no injuries were reported.

Izabaila Walker was reported missing on May 18th and could be staying with a friend on Vermont Avenue in Knoxville.

Comment Period Extended for the Laurel Falls Trail Management Plan Environmental Assessment in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park extending the public comment period for the Laurel Falls Trail Management Plan Environmental Assessment through June 4th.

The additional time is being provided because the website was unexpectedly down May 19 to May 23.

The trail management plan addresses visitor experience and safety, parking, and trail infrastructure rehabilitation for one of the most visited trails in the park. The park is conducting public scoping for the proposed plan in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act and National Historic Preservation Act.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office Has Arrested and Charged Two People in a Suspected Road Rage Shooting that Leaves One Dead

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office identifying the suspects involved in a suspected road rage .

Marcus Watts and Christopher Sentell have been arrested and charged in Tuesday night’s incident on West Emory Road near Karns Valley.

Watts is being charged with attempted first-degree murder. Sentell is charged with accessory after the fact and reckless driving.
