Knoxville Fire Department is Investigating the Cause of an Early Morning House Fire

The Knoxville Fire Department is investigating a house fire in Northwest Knoxville.

Crews called to the 3200 block of Dewine Road this morning. The home has suffered heavy fire damage to the attic space and moderate smoke and water damage.

The home had working smoke detectors. However, the detectors did not alert the occupants because there was little to no smoke inside the home at the time of the fire.

No injuries reported.

TBI and Grainger County Sheriff’s Office Asking for Help to Find Man Wanted in Double Homicide

Charges are filed and the search for the man accused in a double homicide in Morristown is underway with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Grainger County Sheriff’s Office asking for your help.

The investigation began in May into the deaths of 49-year-old Jon Atkins and 32-year-old Deven McDaniel, whose bodies were discovered along Rocky Springs Road in Bean Station.

34-year-old Aaron White has been identified as the person responsible for killing the pair and he is charged with two counts of criminal homicide.

TBI Silver Alert for Missing Sevierville Man has Ended

UPDATED STORY: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says the Silver Alert for missing 60 year-old Mark Harrington from Sevierville has ended. He was found safe today after being reported missing yesterday (Sunday).

Original story: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has issued a Silver Alert for a missing man out of Sevierville.

60 year-old Mark Harrington was reported missing yesterday (Sunday) and was last seen in the area of Walters State Community College on Old Newport Highway.  The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has been assisting with use of a helicopter. The Sevier County EMA has issued a Code Red alert to the Sevier County area as well.

He was wearing a green button down shirt, dark blue jeans and tan shoes and has a medical condition that may impair his ability to return safely without assistance.  Please call 1-800-TBI-FIND if you have any information.

Seven People Arrested on Various Drug and Theft Charges in Campbell County

The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office says seven people are arrested after drugs were found in a Jacksboro home.

CCSO executed a narcotics search warrant at a home on Smith Oaks Lane and found evidence that led to the arrest of Mark Daughterty, Brendon Kingensmith, Kristina Lovett, David Nelson, Brian and Corey Overton and Anthony Sammons all charged with various theft and drug paraphernalia charges.

  • 48-year-old Mark Daugherty – Charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and theft over $2,500.
  • 31-year-old Brendon Klingensmith – Charged with violation of probation.
  • 50-year-old Kristina Lovett – Charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and theft over $2,500.
  • 40-year-old David Nelson – Charged with capias/bench warrant.
  • 48-year-old Brian Overton – Charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and theft over $2,500.
  • 46-year-old Corey Overton – Charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and theft over $2,500.
  • 28-year-old Anthony Sammons – Charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and theft over $2,500.

Knoxville Police Arrest Suspect in Western Avenue Bank Robbery

Knoxville Police have arrested a bank robbery suspect.

Officers responded to the City Employees Credit Union on Western Avenue Friday afternoon after 51 year-old Robert Whipple reportedly passed the teller a note demanding money.  

Officers spotted Whipple in a U-Haul cargo van during their investigation Friday night.  He eluded officers in the downtown area but police pursued the van until it became disabled on Millertown Pike at Washington Pike.

Whipple is charged with robbery and felony evading arrest among other charges.  This comes only a year after Whipple was sentenced to prison for a string of bank robberies he committed in March 2020.   He was sentenced to 70 months in prison in February 2023.

A Man is Charged in Accident Which Shuts Down Alcoa Highway for Hours, Injuring Two

Alcoa Police are investigating a pursuit which ended in a crash that injures two people and shuts down Aloca Highway for hours.

Officers witnessed a reckless driver in an older model Maxima speeding on Hall Road near Texas Roadhouse. Another officer spotted the car speeding near Lois Lane and said the driver was displaying signs of being impaired.

The driver underestimated a curve on Alcoa Highway at Rivertrace Boulevard and rear-ended a commercial box van, causing it to overturn and hit the bridge wall. The driver of the Maxima, 41-year-old Jerome Robinson, was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.  Warrants are issued against Robinson for driving on a revoked license for DUI, speeding, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, vehicular assault and driving under the influence.

JCPD: Long-time Jefferson City Police Department Employee killed in Wreck

Jefferson City, TN (WOKI) The Jefferson City Police Department is mourning the loss of a veteran employee who died Thursday following a car accident.

JCPD officials say the accident happened on Highway 11E near North Chucky Pike.

They say Marilyn Jones, a records technician for 40 years, was killed after hitting a pickup truck. According to authorities, the pickup truck driver suffered minor injuries.

JCPD says Jones retired several years ago but stayed on as a part-time technician in the years since.

The crash remains under investigation.

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) The Young-Williams Animal Center announcing Friday it has put down the dog that killed a six-week old child last month.

The center had custody of the dog following the attack on 6-week-old Ezra Mansoor who was taking a nap in his crib when the family’s Husky attacked out of nowhere.

The family says they had the dog for eight years, and there was no history of aggression.

Young Williams says the Knox County Sheriff’s Office recommended the dog be euthanized.

CLAIBORNE CO., Tenn. (WVLT) – The principal of H.Y. Livesay Middle School knowingly approved incorrect timesheets, according to an investigative report by the Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury.

A custodian was hired by the Claiborne County Board of Education in May of 2023. From then until December, the principal was knowingly approving incorrect timesheets, totaling at least $1,844.08, according to the state investigation.

“According to the school principal, she authorized the former custodian’s timesheets, but each day the timesheet documented full daily shifts as worked, and the school principal allowed the former custodian to leave two hours early by 7:00 p.m. due to personal obligations,” the report stated. “The school principal stated she intended for the former custodian to make up unearned compensation hours during the summer, but the former custodian resigned prior to the summer months.”

The custodian resigned in January of 2024.

WVLT News reached out to the school system for comment but has not received a response.

BACKGROUND

H.Y. Livesay Middle School (school) is inHarrogate, Tennessee, and is part of theClaiborne County Department of Education(CCDOE). The school serves approximately 260students in grades five through eight.In May 2023, the CCDOE hired a custodian, nowa former custodian, for the school. The formercustodian worked under the supervision of theschool’s principal as a 10-month employee, asshe did not work in June and July. The formercustodian resigned from her position on January11, 2024.

RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION

THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL KNOWINGLY APPROVED A FORMER CUSTODIAN’SINACCURATE TIMESHEETS RESULTING IN UNEARNED COMPENSATIONTOTALING AT LEAST $1,844.08

 During the period May 2023 through December 2023, the school principal knowingly approved aformer custodian’s inaccurate monthly timesheets, which overstated daily hours worked by twohours each work day. Therefore, the former custodian received compensation for two unearnedhours on 89 work days at a compensation rate of $10.36 an hour, totaling at least $1,844.08. Theformer custodian’s timesheets were signed by the school principal and documented that the formercustodian worked full daily shifts from 2:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

One Person is Taken to the Hospital, Investigation is Underway in Northeast Knoxville House Fire

One person taken to the hospital and an investigation is underway to the cause of a house fire in Northeast Knoxville.

Crews called to Gap Road last night (Thursday) and were told someone was inside the home which had heavy smoke coming from the front.

While battling the fire, crews did find a person inside, they were taken to the hospital and their condition has not been released.

The home has suffered moderate fire and smoke damage.
