TWRA is Investigating a Fatal Boating Accident on Norris Lake and an Explosion at Concord Marina

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating a fatal boating accident on Norris Lake in Grainger County.

It happened last night (Sunday) when a private boat collided with a jet ski near Black Fox Access Area. The man operating the private boat died at the scene. His body was taken for forensic analysis.

TWRA is also investigating a boat explosion on Ft. Loudon Lake at Concord Marina which sends four people to the hospital with burns.

It happened Saturday night after the boat finished fueling at the marina gas dock. The boat exploded and caught fire then burned to the waterline and sank.

All four occupants suffered burn injuries with three more seriously injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment then flown to the Vanderbilt burn center.

Knoxville Police are investigating a fatal crash on Chapman Highway.

It happened last night (Sunday) in the 6500 block involving a motorcycle.

Early investigation reveals a motorcycle being driven by a man was going south on Chapman Highway when it crossed into the northbound lane into on-coming traffic and hit an SUV head-on, that vehicle hit another car.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, one person in one of the other involved vehicles was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Sweetwater, TN (WOKI) Over a pound of meth hidden in the woods in Sweetwater is seized by law enforcement in Monroe County.

Multiple law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant Friday, June 2 on a property on Sweetwater Vonore Road. The Monroe County Sheriff’s office says meth was found in the woods on the property where it had been attempted to be concealed. Also seized in the search was a revolver-style pistol and an ammo can.

MCSO says charges are pending in the case, and a criminal investigation is ongoing.

TDOT Announcing Lane Closures in Sevier County Expected to Last Until the End of July

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has announced road work on Dolly Parton Parkway (SR 35/US 411) beginning Tuesday, June 6. Motorists should expect delays during heavy traffic periods and be alert for changing traffic patterns.

TDOT has provided the following information on the project.

Motorists traveling on SR-35 (Dolly Parton Parkway/US 411) in Sevier County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have an impact on traffic over the next couple months.

Beginning on Tuesday night, June 6, there will be lane closures on SR-35 (Dolly Parton Parkway/US 411) between Gary Wade Blvd.  (LM 14.66) and SR-416 (LM 17.65).  These lane closures will be in place to allow crews to mill and resurface all lanes of traffic.

These lane closures will be in place nightly, Sundays through Thursdays, between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. All work is expected to be complete by Friday, July 28.

This schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions.  Motorists are advised to use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.

Knoxville Police Identify the Man Killed in Fatal Downtown Crash

Knoxville Police have identified the man killed in a fatal downtown accident.

They say 20 year-old Damien Sherwood was killed in Wednesday afternoon’s accident which involved two cars and a KAT bus. Sherwood reportedly attempted a U-Turn on the bridge hitting the bus then hit a Jeep turning onto Main Street.

A woman in the Jeep was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains on-going.

A Budget Compromise Between Knox County Mayor and Sheriff will Increase Patrol and Correction Officer Pay more than Mayor’s Proposed 8% Increase

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs and Sheriff Tom Spangler reach a budget compromise which will see Patrol officers pay increase to $51,100, making them the fourth-highest in pay in East Tennessee and Corrections officers to $50,100 making them the second-highest in pay in East Tennessee. This means starting Patrol Officers will be making 30% higher salaries than the state average and Corrections Officers will be making 48% more than the state average.

These proposed increases will go into effect July 1st if passed by County Commission and does not include a tax increase. KCSO will have to cut 29 unfilled corrections positions and pension pay will be capped at three percent. Tax payers are not expected see an increase in taxes.

Louisville Woman Arrested for Firing Shots at Sanitation Workers

Louisville, TN (WOKI) A 42-year-old Louisville woman is arrested Wednesday after firing a shotgun in the direction of two sanitation workers attempting to pick up her trash.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office says 42-year-old Theresa Reynolds reportedly fired two rounds at the workers, one of which struck the passenger door of their truck. Officers responded to the scene on Cub Drive around 1:00 p.m. to find Reynolds barricaded in her home.

SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams were dispatched, and Reynolds was taken into custody.

She has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, and is being held at the Blount County Correctional Facility on bonds totaling $20,000.

Reynolds is scheduled for a hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court on June 2, 2023.

Maryville, TN (WOKI) The Maryville Police Department is asking for help in locating a missing 16 year old girl.

Kena Reed is a Black girl with red dreadlocks and brown eyes. She stands at 5-feet-seven-inches and was last seen on McCammon Avenue on Tuesday, May 23.

Police say she may be in the East Knoxville or Knox County area.

The Investigation into a Rollover Crash in Halls Continues and Reveals Three Halls High School Students were Involved

The investigation into the cause of a rollover crash in Halls continues and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office says the three minors injured were juniors at Halls High School and on the football team.

That crash happened Tuesday night on Hill Road near Griffith Road with one person ejected from the vehicle taken to the hospital and his condition has not been released.

The other two suffered minor injuries.
